Over the years we have reviewed many Pinot Noir wines, although most of them were not in the $10 range. We have recently reviewed many Australian wines, although most of them were not in the $10 range. And now they come together. Dr. Henry John Lindeman became a member of the (British) Royal College of Surgeons at the age of 23. A few years later he was producing wine in New South Wales, Australia where he planted his first vines in 1840. Lindemans is now a huge winery, their bin series composed of five white and four red varietals sells a perhaps unbelievable one million bottles a week. Just a final thought, Dr. Lindeman was an early partisan of the health benefits of wine, surely in moderation.
I did see Beard Papa, offering a limited preview of their cream puffs (coming soon to Uwajimaya). Most interesting, though, was Henry's Bento. Henry, formerly at Rocking Wok, caught my eye with some spicy slow cooker authentic beef curry tendon that was a winner in terms of taste and texture. We'll be checking out his new store and passing along a report before too long.
If there is something that you really want to make, but cannot find any recipes for it, please take my advice. Just try it out. Pretend you don't spicy beef curry need a recipe. Trust me, I experiment all the time and it is rare that what I make is truly gross and its only when I'm crazy experimenting.
If adding meat to the soup such as chicken you have some options on how and when to add it to the pot. For some soups (liken homemade chicken) you will just add it to the pot and cook along with the other ingredients. For other soup (such as slow cooker beef curry barley) you will want to brown the meat to add more intense flavor.
As an appetizer, Mike brought the large bratwurst platter. Technically, Schnitzelhaus lists it as an entree - and it's what I get when I visit over Oktoberfest, and the chef's special is off the menu. This platter showcases all four bratwursts available at Schnintzelhaus: Nurnburger, a thin bratwurst billed as the "very beef curry coconut milk slow cooker of bratwurst," original bratwurst, Bauernwurst, and white bratwurst. Of these, the only one that fails to impress is the white bratwurst which comes across as bland and boring. The Nurnburger is by far the tastiest bratwurst I've tried. It's still a milder flavor than the others, but it remains a favorite. The original bratwurst and Bauernwurst are neck and neck in second place.
Add the coconut milk at the end and bring it to the boil. To thicken the curry please add corn flour in a small bowl and add half a cup of water. Mix this and then pour it into the pot and stir unto the curry thickens. Garnish with some fresh cream and coriander.
